Great Wall

As a teenager my bedroom walls were completely covered with magazine pages, photographs, posters, and concert tickets.  Back then I always wondered why adults didn't do this.  Now that I'm an "adult" I no longer use tape and tacs to put random clippings up all over my home but I think that my old obsession with this practice has carried over a little (maybe more than a little).  I still see the appeal of a little wall clutter when done right.

These are two walls in my apartment that have fallen victim to this obsession:

And here are a few perfectly chaotic walls that I have come by on Flickr, Fffound, and pearlsandtea:

The Hundertwasser House

I can't get over this whimsicle work of architecture.  The Hunertwasser House in Vienna was designed by hippy artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser.  It has 52 apartments and several other offices and spaces and the building contains so straight lines or surfaces.  There are even numerous trees growing inside the building and out the windows.

Dr Dog

I keep meaning to mention how fantastic this show was...  Dr Dog came through Seattle a couple weeks ago.  I got to see their amazing performance from only a few feet away up on the balcony at the recently remodeled Crocodile Cafe in Belltown.  I can't say much for the layout of the new venue but Dr Dog was incredible... just as I expected.  Those boys sure do love what they do and it shows.  If you have a chance to see them definitely don't pass it up.

Square Room

They were going quickly so I'm not sure if there is anything left for the taking but Square Room on Capitol Hill had all of their last season Goorin Brothers hats on sale for 50% off about two weeks ago. I picked up the Glitz in brown. The owners of Square Room have such a great eye. Their selection of men's and women's Goorin hats is great! I know that when I got mine they were expecting a shipment of new spring hats to arrive at any time. I'm looking forward to checking out the new styles.

It's Spring!

I love tulip magnolias.  Not only are their blooms spectacular but they are also a sign that it is actually starting to feel like spring in Seattle (which I couldn't be more ready for after this year's strange snowy winter).  I ran by this one yesterday morning and had to stop and snap some pictures with my phone.  These fragile blooms don't last long so I often stop and enjoy for a bit when I see one.

Heidi Merrick

I really love the super low back styles from LA based designer Heidi Merrick.  I was just checking out her summer 09 collection and it looks like that is the theme with many her summer dresses.  I've also got my eye on the lovely pieces drenched in ruffles.  And that bathing suit!!! Too fun...

In her previous collections there is a very free spirited feeling.  But of course, always classy, Heidi Merrick keeps her work beautifully tailored and uses fabrics that let her customers easily transition from casual to dressy with only minimal changes in accessories.

My last post reminded my that I recently found Lollia's Inspire Fragrance on sale for 65% off at Anthropologie downtown.  I just checked on Anthropologie's website and it isn't on sale there so the Downtown store must have been overstocked.  I've never seen that line on sale there before.  Just thought I'd give ya'll Seattlites a heads up up incase you like that line.

Modern Alchemy

Maybe it's the fact that the gorgeous label has my initials on it or perhaps it's just the timeless black hat box that all of their items come in.  Whatever the reason, when I was given a gift card for Essenza in Fremont as a wedding gift (thanks Veronica!) I was unable to resist using it on a D.L. & Co. Modern Alchemist Diffuser.  After spending a long time at Essenza contemplating which fragrance I wanted I finally went with Cassia from D.L.'s Art Neuvo Collection of diffusers. The sales person described it as Cassis fruit with a touch of fig.  The only other place I have come across D.L. & Co fragrances is at Square Room on Capitol Hill.  Square Room also carries what D.L. & Co. calls their "objects and curiosities"... a silver thorny apple candle holder with an apple scented votive candle and a sterling silver spiny clam shell pin.  I checked out D.L. & Co's website and they call themselves "purveyors of curious goods" and "a refuge for those weary of the prosaic, second-rate offerings that surround us all".  What a clever guy that Mr. Douglas Little...

Sure do love the band Sin Fang Bous and their song "The Jubilee Chorus"

Home of Poppipetals

My dear friend Jamie, one half of jewelry company Poppipetals, is moving out of her fabulous apartment next week so while I was visiting Boise over the weekend I made sure to snap some photos of her gorgeous and whimsy decorating.  In addition to her jewelry business I think Jamie should share her home design talents and become an interior decorator...

The colorful and eclectic kitchen

Bold curtains and statement making wall decorations.  Jamie's apartment is filled with peacocks and peacock feather items.  For years I have thought of her every time I see anything with her favorite colorful bird on it.

A drawer filled with endless amounts of new and vintage jewelry finds.  Some to keep, some to turn into Poppipetal creations...

On the bedroom wall is a collage of Jamie's jewelry finds as well as her own creations.

The sunny back room with my favorite peacock item in the apartment; a large woodcut with metallic color.  Original art prints as well as framed vintage advertisements and photos line the walls.
The most adorable pillows I've ever seen.
I can't wait to see how she decorates the new apartment.

Danette's

As a pre-birthday celebration for the Don I picked up a couple gorgeous vegan cupcake creations by Danette's at the Madison Co-op.   When the clock struck midnight I snuck off to the kitchen and lit the candles.

Carrot cake with non-dairy cream cheese frosting and Black Bottom cake with an adorable Hostess like curly cue.  We first learned about Danette's at Veg Fest a few weeks back and soon after that I noticed that her products are sold in the co-op that I get my groceries at.  All of her locally made creations are so beautifully put together and delicious as well as dairy free, egg free and cholesterol free.  It's going to be hard to avoid these beauties when I stop into the co-op on my way home from work each night to grab things for dinner...

Wedding Jewelry

This bride chose such a wonderful combination of necklaces.  I love the idea of a locket but by adding the beads it becomes so much more eclectic.   The right combination of necklaces can bring so much personality to a brides ensemble.
