Plum Restaurant Update

I wrote about the opening of Plum Restaurant last month and recently made a trip back to try out a menu item. I ordered the southern fried seitan steak and gravy with roasted potatoes and greens. This entree was fantastic. Far from the health food commonly found at vegan restaurants, the seitan was breaded, seasoned and fried to perfection. The gravy tasted like a mushroom base and added just the right amount of creaminess to the dish. It seemed so small when it came to the table but I was so full after finishing my meal.

Taylor- On Pike & 11th on Capitol Hill.

Taylor writes about fashion for the Examiner and is also a fellow local blogger. I love her vintage polka dot shirt and eye catching accessories. I have the same Balenciaga motorcycle bag and it has to be the most versatile purse I own. I've had it for years and I think it was always be in style.

James, Tasha & Nutella- Broadway & Thomas on Capitol Hill.
I wish I would have noticed that their great vintage bags weren't really showing in this picture. I should have gotten a a close up. Lovely outfits and a beautiful dog. Isn't Nutella quite the model? So good... just sat down and looked right at the camera.

Top siders

I love my Sperry Topsiders. I always love seeing funky creative versions of my simple brown ones.

These are my husband's fun two toned ones. I want some in my size... too bad his feet are literally double the size of mine or I would steal them.

Zuelekha is wearing this menswear inspired outfit so well by adding pearls and cuffing up the pants a bit. This prep blazer had a little bit of a feminine cut that offset the loose jeans perfectly. I have to say that the two toned shoes were my very favorite part though.

Bamboo Garden

After seeing The Moondoggies and The Fruit Bats on Friday night we headed over to the Bamboo Garden Vegetarian Restaurant in lower Queen Anne for some dinner. The menu at this restaurant is enormous! It is so hard to pick something to eat because everything on the menu sounds incredible. We finally narrowed it down to two entrees after some very difficult decision making and a game of rock, paper, scissors.

The Stewed Shiitake and Oyster Mushroom with Potato and Carrot and Satay Peanut Sauce. This hearty stew-like dish was so rich and savory. The oyster mushrooms had an amazing consistency that I feel is usually lost when they are cooked for too long so I don't know how they were able to stew them and keep a pillowy texture. It was served with beautiful fluffy brown rice.

The "Chicken" Chow Mein (Low Mein). Just like the hole in the wall Chinese restaurant classic without the heavy grease and gut bomb aftermath. This dish was so light and filled with different veggies and crisp noodles.

The servings were pretty big. We had about half of each dish left to take home by the time we were full. And today, those leftovers were delicious too. I liked my fortune... time to go gather and communicate.

Dries Van Noten Spring 09

This stunning piece from the Dries Van Noten Ready to Wear Spring 09 collection has been on my mind lately. I keep meaning to share a picture of it. It feels so timeless to me, like a dress that I would pine over in the window of a vintage clothing boutique rather than a dress that just walked down the runway last season. I'm going to keep my eye out for it in next year on sale used... you never know right?

From Las Vegas to Seattle

Visiting Seattle from Las Vegas and checking out the market before heading to see the Dodos at the Seattle Center Mural. This romper had a gorgeous floral pattern that grabbed my attention from amongst the bustling market crowd and once I approached her I realized how individual each of their style was... and how wonderful his boots were!

The Fruit Bats & The Moondoggies

Tonight at the Seattle Center Mural stage as part of KEXP's Concerts at the Mural. These friday night shows have become my favorite way to end the work week. I grab a blanket and some food and head down every Friday evening and lay out to the sounds of great music. I am so excited to hear the new Fruit Bats album The Ruminant Band live. And for those of you in Portland check out thier show at the Doug Fir tomorrow. And don't miss Seattle band The Moondoggies who are playing tonight as well. These guys have such a great sound filled with beaultiful harmonies and soulful lyrics... I really like NPR's description of them: "sounds equally suited to be played in the back of a dive bar or in front of an arena crowd".

Really looking forward to seeing both bands tonight.

Seattle Street Style Hana- KEXP BBQ Concert at the Seattle Center Mural

Not only did she have on perfect casual outdoor concert attire but her rolled up blanket just happened to look like the perfect accessory where we were. When she asked if she should set it aside I told her that I felt like it just added to her already adorable outfit. I can't get enough of denim button ups lately. They add just a touch of masculinity and country and go with just about anything.

Plungerhead Wine

We recently discovered that the Greenwood Market is a treasure trove of sale wine. The Don picked up a few bottles last week and this was easily my favorite. Smokey, deep, strong oak and vanilla spice flavors are strong and long lasting. Plungerhead's 2007 Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel has a spiral top cork that was a little intimidating but ended up being super easy to remove. This wine comes from Don & Son's Sabastiani. The same geniuses who produce my very favorite cheap wine, Pepperwood Grove's old vine zinfandel.

The amazing London apartment of Pauline Forster and Toby Penrose in the George Tavern. Yesterday's post got me thinking about apartments and decor with a history. The items in this home are so varied and everything is tattered in such a beautiful way.

New Vintage New Yorkers

I came across this New York Times Article about Brooklynites decorating their homes like eclectic antique store and the set of The Royal Tenenbaums. I loved these photographs featured with the article. Check out the Hovey sister's (pictured in the first and last image) blog Hollister Hovey.

Bonne Journée Henry

My insanely talented stylist Henry Graham is moving to San Francisco. I'm ecstatic for him and this gives me more incentive to increase my visits down to San Francisco. I had my last appointment with him at Zero Zero last Friday and since he is always dressed impeccably when I come in I made certain to bring along the camera to snap a shot of his outfit du jour.

Henry, Seattle will miss you.
