Diana Kim | Stand Up Comedy Portland

During a recent visit to Portland my friend Carol took me to the new downtown home of Stand Up Comedy. This store is so dreamy. Carol and I were on cloud nine looking through the clothing and accessories carefully selected for the shop by owner Diana Kim. We felt like we needed to examine everything because each piece had something unexpected... a rogue pocket, exaggerated pleats, a unique fabric. I felt like I was at an interactive art gallery. I didn't come in with the intention of making any purchases for myself (my never ending struggle with Christmas shopping) but I left with the most incredible Rowena Sartin tunic. This piece, and everything in the shop actually, just made me smile. It was very apparent that this is Diana's intention: To provide a boutique experience that doesn't take itself too seriously but is truly one of a kind. It was so refreshing! Laughing and joking while looking at clothing this beautiful is not something you come by very often. Stand Up Comedy is a must visit next time you are in Portland.

Diana was nice enough to let me snap a photo of her in front of the shop. Her coverall is pretty much the cutest non-maternity maternity getup ever...

Artist Jamie Randall | Capitol Hill

It's dark when I walk to work and when I walk home so I've been trying to be better about taking photos even if it isn't light out. It's been fun playing with the street lighting at night.

Jamie is an artist here in Seattle. You can find her work here,

Gift Idea | Shibori

I recently borrowed a book from the library on the art of Shibori; the earliest known example of Japanese cloth dying. It has such an incredible history and I loved the idea that no two Shibori pieces will ever be the same. Each piece is affected by every little thing all the way down to the temperment of the artist. Reading about it got me so excited to do it myself.

I bought some cotton flour sack towels, a plastic tarp, a couple buckets and a basic indigo dye kit and over the weekend I made Shibori kitchen towels to give as Christmas gifts. It was so much fun.

Just make sure you wear all black... It's a little messy...
