Emma Ranniger and Joe Rudko
I was going through my computer organizing photos from the year and I came across this shot that I didn't use back when I originally posted Emma and Joe's photo. I just love Emma's haircut...

Silvestre Cortez | Brenthaven Bags
I stopped in to check out the new Brenthaven shop on Pine and I left with a perfect new camera bag, a neat case for my iPhone and a couple great shots of Silvestre who was working while I was there. I've mentioned it on here many times but I love well done casual style. What a fruitful trip to Brenthaven.

Upcycle-Fashion Contest with The Seattle Times | Win Some $$$
I'm so excited about this contest that The Seattle Times and I are teaming up on. I had so much fun seeing your entries for the Thrift Shop Showdown and I am sure that your submissions are going to be just as incredible for this contest.
Perhaps you have a blazer that had boring buttons so you went out in search of the perfect replacement and found a set of hand carved wooden buttons at Fremont's Sunday flea market to sew on. Or maybe you bought the perfect field jacket at your favorite local boutique but you wanted to add a little of your own personality to it so you collected some patches and pins from different thift stores to add to it. I do a lot of upcycling and I love getting inspiration from people I photograph who have found creative ways to add/make changes to items that they have purchased. There are just so many possibilities!
So, here's the story... Send us a photo of your best upcycled creation to crafy@seattletimes.com by 5pm on Oct 15th. The Seattle Times and I will review the photos and choose a winner for two different age groups (teen and adult) and winners will be notified by Oct 23rd.
I really can't wait to see what you all come up with!!

Kennedy Carda & Ricky Cladon of Monogamy Party
Kennedy and Ricky play together in the band Monogamy Party. They were outside of Montana while I was there having a drink.

Idaho Part II
On my recent Idaho trip to shoot Anna and Shea's wedding Don and I flew into Salt Lake City so that we could spend some time checking out the food there and exploring the city. Don took me to Red Iguana, his all time favorite Mexican restaurant. Yes, even after living in Brownsville, TX right on the Mexican border for almost a year Don still never found a place he liked as much as Red Iguana. After eating there I wouldn't even question it. This place was unreal. I was totally overwhelmed looking at the menu and wanted to order everything so our server was kind enough to bring me a flight of their 7 made-in-house moles so that I could narrow my decision down a little easier. I ended up getting the enchiladas with Mole Negro. I took photos but it was really dark where we were sitting in the back and the pictures just wouldn't do the food justice. Check out their Yelp page and you will get a pretty good idea of what all the fuss is about.
Before heading to Idaho Falls we spent an afternoon at the Tracy Aviary in Salt Lake. It was a really incredible experience. The Aviary was started in 1938 and in recent years it has been renovated to become the conservatory and bird safe haven that it is today. We got to see birds that I've never heard of and birds that I have only seen photos of like the Grey Owl. We even ended up adopting 54 year old Andy the Andean Condor!

Idaho Falls is really beautiful in the late summer. This is my mom giving me a tour of her garden.
Two of the days we were Idaho Falls Don and I headed up to our favorite place to swim in the summer. Fall Creek waterfall is a creek that has a natural hot spring running into it and those two water sources fall into the Snake River. So, in other words, it's pretty much the perfect setup. A warm waterfall with a mossy stairway made of rocks and little pools to sit in on the way down. You can jump from the top into the river or walk all the way to the bottom and swim.
Not a lot of people know how to get here by foot but the fishing hole at the bottom is much more well known. When we are there we usually see quite a few fishing boats make their way through.
My dad and I at the bottom. My parents were braver than me and carried thier camera down. My camera stays up top when I go.
Fall creek was followed by Scotty's Drive-In, our favorite lunch spot in Idaho Falls.
Such a good trip!

Skylar Fairchild | Bettie Page Clothing Seattle
An unexpected rainstorm happened on my walk home from work the other day and as I fumbled with my umbrella and started hurrying to get to my apartment Skylar passed me... Put together, elegant and composed as if there weren't a huge thunderstorm barreling down. She was nice enough to stop for a photo so I huddled under an awning and snapped a few shots of her. I usually don't bother people in the rain because I imagine they too are trying to get to where they are going quickly but I just couldn't resist.
Skylar works at Bettie Page Clothing just down the street from where I took this photo on Broadway. She is wearing Bettie Page's "Gigi" dress and Bolero as well as a their handbag and umbrella. The pillbox hat is from her own collection. Skylar grew up in the small down of Deming, WA but now lives here in Seattle where she is an alternative model and recording artist when she isn't working her day job at Bettie Page.

Anna & Shea | An Idaho Wedding
I had the honor of shooting the wedding of my dear friend Anna last weekend. Anna and I have known each other since high school and have stayed in touch through moves, college and all that other growing up stuff. She is such an incredible person and I was so excited to meet her husband Shea and to capture this special day. Anna and Shea live in Portland but they decided to have their wedding just outside of Idaho Falls where Anna and I grew up in a small town called New Sweden. The location was gorgeous and friends and family pulled together to make the food, decorations and music happen. The whole thing was so beautiful and everyone was grinning ear to ear the entire night from the ceremony all the way through to late night dancing under the Idaho stars. I'm so elated for Anna and Shea. They are such a perfect pair.
Congratulations you two, thanks for entrusting me in documenting this hugely important day in your lives.
Here are a few shots from the day...
