Sidewalks in Helsinki

Welp, I'm back from Finland. What an amazing trip. Everyone that I encountered was incredibly friendly, helpful and (luckily for me) fluent in English. The days were long and the weather was perfect which led to a lot of walking around the city.

Something that really struck me was how wide all of the sidewalks are there. Main roads have the sidewalk split up with a path for pedestrians and a path for bikes. Many of the side roads have these same large sidewalks but with no need for designated lanes the stores and restaurants sprawl out into the sidewalk and integrate into the city. Summer in Helsinki is short so people who live there soak it in like crazy while they can.

I took the above photo in the Kallio neighborhood of Helsinki.

Rebecca Evans | Rough Linens

I saw Rebecca from way down the street and was so excited to stop her and ask about her outfit and style. This is just like something I would wear: Unique fabrics, unexpected proportions and well worn (loved) pieces paired with structured pieces. We discussed our mutual love for all of these things and Rebecca also told me about her pinafore designed by Rough Linen by Trisha Rose. You guys have to check out this company. You may soon be plotting how to save up enough to deck your bed out in these linens... that's what happened to me when I saw her stuff.

Fizzy Basil Gin Lemonade

5 basil leaves
1 lemon thinly sliced
2 tbsp honey syrup (1 part honey one part hot water to make)
2 oz gin (I'm still loving Seattle's Counter Gin)
1 oz St Germain
splash of soda water

Muddle basil, lemon slices and honey syrup in a shaker. Add gin, St Germain and ice and shaker until the shaker becomes frosty. Pour into a glass and top off with soda water.

Have a great weekend!

Shala Daniel | Pua

Aside from all the incredible shoes I found at the Clementine and Edie's sale while I was over at the West Seattle Street fest Friday, I also came across Shala and discovered such an incredible line of clothing that I am absolutely in love with. Shala designs, hand dyes and sews all of the pieces that she sells under the name Pua. She works with really special fabrics like linen, fine cotton and she is currently awaiting an order of silk that she is really excited to start working with. I came home with two items... a gorgeous white tunic with a neckline just like the tank that Shala is wearing and an oversized tank with all sorts of great drapey pleating. I am so happy that I stopped Shala for a photo so that I could learn about Pua. Her booth will be up during the West Seattle Street Fest this weekend and after that you can find her online at her website and Etsy. I can't wait to see what she does with the silk!

Cat Clifford | Cobra Rock Boot Company

I love running into Ballard resident Cat Clifford. She has a knack for informing me of my next favorite store or designer and she did not disappoint when I found her outside Totokaelo on Capitol Hill wearing these amazing boots. Cobra Rock Boot Company's unisex boots are made in Marfa, Texas and there is such a high demand that they ask you to expect a ten-month wait after placing your order.

The ring that Cat has on is her engagement ring. Such a beautiful idea to wear it like this! Her husband chose the ring himself.

You can find my previous post on Cat here and this outfit was also featured this week on my Hill Style post over at CHS.

Featured in Styled Right Magazine!

When Darcy Werden, founder and editor of Styled Right Magazine, asked me to take part in a piece that she was putting together about Seattle style bloggers for her summer issue my first reaction was... who cancelled? Ha! What an honor to be asked. Darcy has been so supportive of my site for years. She invites me to fashion events around town and has even featured my photos on a style segment that she did for New Day Northwest.  Darcy has her finger on the pulse of just about everything related to style in this city. In addition to Styled Right Magazine and her local television appearances she also runs Styled.Seattle where she does her work as a personal style and image consultant. On top of that, Darcy does a monthly podcast called STYL-FM. Oh, and I almost forgot... she is also the style director of Seattle's Girl Power Hour. Darcy! Do you sleep?? So impressive.

Those three lovely ladies to my right in the photo above are the three Seattle style bloggers I had the privilege of being featured in Styled Right with. Mollie of Mollie In Seattle, Kate of All Things Kate and Jess of Fresh Jess

For the rest of the article and to read the summer issue of Styled Right Magazine click here

Well, there you have it. A rare photo of myself on the blog. It's not often that I am on the other side of the camera. Thanks to Nicole Firestone of Sunshine Charlie Photography for taking such beautiful pictures of everyone. Remember Nicole? I stopped her on 15th for a photo last year around this time wearing the a fantastic bright vintage dress.

And thanks again Darcy.

Jenni & Babette Ravetz

Jenni and Babette had just finished playing in the sun at the park when I found them on Pike & Bellevue. Babette is too too cute. I snapped these two last year outside Elliot Bay Book Company being just as colorful and well dressed.

Robin Dupuy at Stylus Salon does their hair color.
