Alice

Alice- On University Ave.
Ah, how I love this bag from the Hollywood Intuition line for Target... At one time I had this one and now I have three of them. Another black one for when mine is on it's last leg and a Kelly green one just because. Only the green one is still available for sale on their website but you might able to find the black and purple versions in a Target store. Because I walk to work I have to carry my shoes for the office, my breakfast, my lunch, a water bottle, and an apple. Then some days I even bring my my Canon along too. It somehow all magically fits. If you carry anywhere near this much stuff and always find yourself trying to fit everything into one carry all, this bag is a godsend.

The Field House

The Field House @ Its My Darlin
The Field House @ Its My DarilnBlackbird has opened another location in Ballard! It is called The Field House and it sounds completely amazing. I just heard the exciting news this morning and I am so looking forward to checking it out. Since I haven't seen it yet I think it's best that I leave it to Blackbird to sum up the store and the idea behind it:

"The Field House is reminiscent of general stores that were once at the heart of rural towns across America. Its shelves are stocked with a wide variety of merchandise, including classic work wear, vintage goods, basic groceries and candies, flowers, and perfumes and candles. It captures the history, geography, and folklore of times past, when goods were less disposable and had more meaning, a time when people canned their own food and took a moment to converse with strangers. It is perhaps Blackbird's most personal store, as it is inspired by ownerNicole Miller’s eccentric Pacific Northwest family and her desire to get back to basics.

“In a culture dominated by computers, The Field House is a refreshing invitation to slow down and connect with traditions that are lost and forgotten,” says Miller.

In addition to merchandise, The Field House plans to have free weekly classes on lost skills such as "How to Debone a Chicken" or "Lawnmower Repair." The store will sell Christmas trees for the holidays and will serve a "cup-a-joe" from an insulated Stanley thermos.

The Field House is an experimental pop-up shop. After three months, Blackbird will decide whether to make it a permanent part of the neighborhood."

The concept of this store is beautiful. The products that Blackbird carries embody a sense of timelessness and a carefree outlook. This new store will carry items for both men and women with product lines ranging from Woolrich and Pendleton apparel to local chocolates and Diptyque candles. I can't think of a better neighborhood to start something along the lines of The Field House... getting back to basics and buying well made items in an intimate friendly setting. With so many wonderful local businesses closing and being replaced by condominiums and big box stores it is really refreshing to see a company thinking in a completely different direction.

So stop in and see what you think. The Field House is just around the corner from Blackbird at 5465 Leary Avenue NW in Ballard next door to The Chai House.

Late Afternoon

I came across the blog Late Afternoon yesterday morning before work and bookmarked the link knowing immediately that I was going to be looking at old posts for a long time. When I got home I found myself wandering through pages and pages of wonderful styling, gorgeous photographs, and spot on fashion tips.

Liz is a Bay Area fashion blogger with a serious eye for fashion. She posts the spectacular, yet somehow effortless, outfits that she puts together day to day as photographed by her boyfriend. I can't put her style into a category because it is just too unique. I felt so inspired after spending time on Late Afternoon and later found myself playing dress up in my head while cooking dinner... conjuring up dreamworthy ensembles made up of pieces that I hadn't ever thought to wear together. I'm looking forward to making Late Afternoon a part of my daily reads and watching as Liz takes over the fashion world starting from San Francisco.

Katy & Phillip

Katie & Phillip- Downtown at 7th and Pine. I know I should be sad that Seattle's sunny season is over but I am really excited about fall this year... and layering! The perfect solution for someone like me who struggles to pick from the closet what is going to get a turn each day. Why wear one really warm coat when you can wear a sweater and a coat. It looks like these two feel the same way. And both of them in perfect fall shoes for seattle; walk friendly and prepared for a little unexpected rain. I too am going LL Bean rain shoe this year rain season just like Phillip. I'm tired of wellies and these are a fun nod to my childhood back east. I remember both of my parents wearing them. My mom in the ankle style and my dad and the mid calf length. Now it's my turn.

Leo

Leo- Market and 22nd in Ballard.

Leo works at Ballard's fabulous men and women's clothing boutique Blackbird. After taking these pictures I stopped in and checked out their women's store upstairs... Ladies, it is spectacular up there. From the stunning clothing selection to the eclectic decor, you will be in heaven. Blackbird's Kristeen Lehn is the lady behind the women's store and she does her job well. I found myself drooling over gorgeous trousers, coats, Lipstick Queen coral lipstain, and French brand Bensimon canvas sneakers.

Blackbird has a great blog too. We are so lucky to have such an amazing local boutique in Seattle, but for those of you outside of the area, do not fret, you can shop their store online.

What an wonderfully talented man. On top of speaking many languages and being from Russia he made the gorgeous clothing that he is wearing. It never ceases to amaze me how interesting people can be once I stop them for a picture. We pass so many people each day on the street when living in a city and sometimes it becomes second nature to minimize the fact that everyone has a story. Although I stop people for their fashion, I leave the encounter much more impacted by what people tell me about themselves than by the things they are wearing.

Green Restaurant and Meat Market Vintage

Green Vegetarian Restaurant @ Its My Darlin
Looks like these two struggled just as much as me to decide what to get...

Vegan Soy Milkshake @ Its My Darlin
On our recent visit to Arizona I was so excited to stop back in at Green Restaurant in Tempe since my last trip there was so delicious. I went with two desserts instead of lunch this time and it was faaantastic! I got the S'more Tsoynami "milk"shake and a peanut butter chocolate bar. And, as always, the staff were incredibly adorable and friendly. I chatted for while with the gal who took my order. When I told her I came all the way from Seattle for my shake she said that she was going on a trip to our fair city in a couple days. She was super excited to hit up Hillside Quickie on Capitol Hill where she was going to be staying on her visit. She also introduced me to a super fun vintage clothing site: Meat Market Vintage. What a fruitful visit! Here is my favorite item on their Ebay shop:

I love the outfit she put together with pieces from the store. Those ruffle shoes have been on my wishlist since I first saw them. I am most certain I wouldn't keep much of my paycheck if i worked there.

Lena & Josefine- Sweden to Seattle

Lena & Josefine- Downtown at Pine and 6th.

While visiting Vancouver BC from their home in Sweden these two decided to make a spontaneous trip down to Seattle for the weekend. I felt so badly when later in the day I realized I told them that the Ballard's farmers market takes place on Saturday rather than Sunday... EEK! Ladies, if you read this, I more than apologize for leading you astray. I go to the Sunday market all the time, I don't have a clue why I was suddenly thinking it happened on Saturday. I hope that you had a wonderful visit and enjoyed Ballard and Fremont despite the misinformation.

Venessa, Theo & Noah

Venessa, Theo & Noah- Downtown at Pine and 3rd. These three work for Virgin Airlines and were visiting Seattle from San Francisco. We chatted about our mutual love for their fare city and that I just happened to get back from a trip there on which I flew Virgin... such a small world. What a fun trio. They had a great time posing and then I sent them off with suggestions of happy hour at Contour and encouragements to end their night at the newly re-opened Pony on Capitol Hill. Hope you guys had a fantastic Seattle visit and that I run into you on my next flight.

Nate- In front of Wall of Sound at Pine and Summit on Capitol Hill. I must apologize in advance because I am going to gush about denim yet again. These jeans are so fantastic from the wash to the cut. They are perfectly suited to be worn with a plain t-shirt or just as Nate is wearing them; with a simple sweater.

Lolly Crisp Vintage

These are such fun pants! I came across them on Lolly Crisp Vintage Etsy shop today. Though they would be much to small for me I want someone teeny get to have the joy of rocking them with a tank, a distressed motorcycle jacket and a pair of super high gladiator heels... It would take some guts to pull these super crazy pants off but, on the right person, they would be epic.

They also reminded me of this photograph from my favorite street style photographer The Satorialist. If you scroll down on his post you'll also see an adorable shot of my other favorite fashion blogger Garance Dore.

SCCC Street Style

I photographed Vic (far left) a few months back. Here she is again with her friends wearing an equally simple and well put together outfit. These three have all done casual so well. And might I add, it is becoming very apparent that I have a recent obsession with vintage/vintage looking denim. So many people I have photographed in the last month caught my eye due to a denim piece they were wearing. I approached Vic this time before I even noticed it was her because of her standout varied denim button up.

Veronica & Walter Part III

Veronica and Walter reserved the Velvet Cantina in the Mission for their union celebration. It was a night filled with out of this world food, dessert, real fruit margaritas, top shelf tequila, and more unforgettable moments than I can list. After attending the events of this day I would encourage anyone to take this non-traditional alternative to a same day wedding reception. The photography at this event was also done by Kate Harrison. Veronica's dress is Maria Cornejo and her shoes are Lanvin. Walter wore a Paul Smith suit and his shirt and tie are Liberty of London.

I took this shot of Veronica as she arrived. I had to include this, she looked like a celebrity getting out of the car.

Veronica and Walter with Veronica's side of the family

Don and myself right where one might expect us... staying very near the food.

I love this shot of them

From the last three photos you can tell that no one had ANY fun at all...
