I met Chiara at the Bellingham Saturday Farmers Market during a trip up to northern Washington last weekend. What a beautiful person. You may have heard of her... last month she camped out up in a tree on Bainbridge Island in an effort to stop the development of a commercial lot that will have several big box stores. She is only 19; I think it's pretty amazing that she did this for her home town. Unfortunately the building project is going through as planned and a 72,000 square foot mall is now going to take the place of 830 trees. You can find out more about it here.

Designer Carol Risley

On my most recent visit to Portland I came across Carol Risely's booth at the Portland Saturday Market. I was initially drawn in by the jewelry she had on display but quickly discovered that absolutely everything at her booth was exactly what I love right now.  I kept going back to these leather and wood necklaces and this black leather and lucite bucket bag has been on my mind non-stop since seeing it. Carol and I ended up talking each other's ears off for what felt like five minutes but turned out to be almost an hour. Behind her counter she had bracelets, wallets, even the shoes that she was wearing were handmade by her (and the shoes were totally dreamy btw). Such a talent!

Today would have been my brother's 35th birthday. Missing him and his beautiful smile big time. This photo was taken at a house he lived at while going to college in Montana. It's so perfectly him.
