I photographed Evie a couple years ago just down the street. I didn't recognize her with her long hair. I really love Evie's style. Such a perfect mix of tomboy and feminine pieces both times. Evie works at Les Amis in Fremont. Check out their instagram, it's such a dreamy shop. I included Les Amis in the city guide that I did for Stay.com earlier this year.

Cassie Woolhiser | The London Plane | Pioneer Square
Cassie was working today when I stopped into The London Plane to do some Christmas shopping. Everyone that works here from the kitchen staff to the servers and florists (who I photographed a while back) are always dressed beautiful and manage to incorporate their aprons into what they are wearing in a way that is so eye catching.

Tryce Mason | On the Bainbridge Ferry
I met Tryce on a recent trip home from the Olympic Peninsula. I asked him if I could take his picture and we ended up taking a few photos around the boat because... we were stuck on a boat so why not! Usually I am stopping people on the street on their way to something so I keep things brief so it was really fun to have a chance to do an impromptu photoshoot.
You can find Tryce on Instagram under @trycemason.
Proof that you truly can't escape from me bothering you for a photo...

A love of handwriting
I've been spending so much time on my calligraphy lately. It's such a fascinating and engrossing art. I have always loved the process of writing and I've maintained snail mail contact with several people as the world has moved from letters, to email, to now mostly just texting. There is something so meditative about writing by hand, I lose myself in it the same way that I do when I draw or paint.
A study came out last year revealing that different parts of the brain are activated depending on whether we are writing in print or cursive. Writing in cursive and having to think ahead about connecting the letter co-activates multiple areas of the brain. It is thought after this study that cursive writing may even be a path to treating dyslexia. Typing on a keyboard doesn't have the same benefits as printing or cursive.
Writing by hand is just like drawing and we all have a personal writing style that we have developed over the years. It's so rare that we get to see a person's handwriting these days though. I love when I get a hand written note from someone and I get to see the style of their handwriting. It's pretty crazy to think that cursive is becoming a thing of the past and that writing by hand is close behind. I'm holding strong. I'll still be sending people mail after the postal service is no longer and mail has to be sent by UPS or Fed Ex...
Get in touch if you are in need of calligraphy or handwriting services! Let's keep the art of handwriting alive.

Dawn Smithson | Moth and Crow
I got the opportunity to get to know Dawn over drinks at Oddfellows recently before one of her classes at SCCC (she is a teacher in their fashion department). Dawn is the creative mind and hands behind leather bag company Moth and Crow. I've been a fan of her work since it was introduced to me a few years back. Dawn designs beautiful leather bags and accessories in a picturesque barn turned shop on Vashon. The timeless backpack she is wearing is one her own designs from her most recent line. You can find it and other great leather goods at mothandcrow.com.

Sisters Raven and Brittany Streissguth
I didn't have my camera with me last night but I had to get a picture of these sisters all layered up with their cozy plaid scarves so iPhone photo it was. Raven is a writer and Brittany runs the lifestyle blog Pumps and Plaid. You can find them on Instagram as @ravestreiss and @pumpsandplaid.

Marta Oliynik | Kirkland
I'm such a sucker for oversized blanket-esque wool scarves. Marta owns Pike Street Press, a letterpress print and design studio located in both Kirkland and downtown near Pike Place Market.

At home with Amanda King
I love getting to see the personal style of someone's home just as much as the way they dress. I've never been interested in cookie cutter, straight out of a decor magazine homes in the same sense that cookie cutter outfits just don't grab my attention. There's just something so beautiful about seeing someone express who they are through their home or the way they dress.
I ran into Amanda a few months back and after taking her photo she told me that she was leaving her lifelong home of Seattle and moving to LA. I asked her if I could feature her apartment on the blog before she left and she was kind enough invite me over during her last week in town when she could have been packing. So nice!
I've talked to other photo subjects in the past about doing this but we just never made it happen. I'm so glad Amanda and I followed through. If you or anyone you know would like to be a part of a feature like this let me know. It would be fun to these occasionally.
