Monica and Mateusz are currently on a epic trip around the US.  They are from Poland and were able to take a few weeks to travel together. They both really liked Seattle so far.  I wonder what their favorite US city will have been once the trip is done...

From Scotland to Seattle

This gentleman recently moved to Seattle from Scotland.  What a beautiful mix of comfort and ease,  crumpled and cuffed just so.

It is official.  My brain has hit maximum capacity for remembering names.  I used to be able to remember most everyone's name and wrote them down just in case I forgot but within the last few months I've lost this ability.  If I don't write a subject's name down, it's gone, and quickly.  This was the case after taking this photo.  Welp, lesson learned.  I will write down all names from now on.

Kate Kelly | Broadway Farmers Market

Kate Kelly Broadway Farmers Market fashion Seattle Street Style

When I am out in the morning on weekends I sometimes pass by people who manage to look so put together while also being comfortable and casual.  I see this most at the farmers markets.  You know what is just as comfortable as work out clothes?  Drapey layers, sweaters, scarves, ballet flats and clogs.  I am going to try to keep this in mind more often on comfy weekend mornings.  I have a terrible tendency to stay in my running clothes for a large part of the day long, long after I am done with my morning run.  Thanks for the inspiration Kelly.

I have seen Juanita many times while walking home from work on 15th Ave but somehow I have never had my camera with me on any of those days. At 90 years old Juanita is undoubtably more experienced at putting together an outfit that she loves than anyone else I have photographed. I have noticed her in sequins  bright colors and ornate jewelry other times we have passed each other. Juanita makes me feel so inspired to always wear what I love and to continue to enjoy the act of putting together an outfit rather than seeing it as a chore.

Juanita has lived on the back of Capitol Hill for much of her life and has always walked and taken the bus everywhere she goes in the neighborhood.  I can't wait to photograph her style again in the future. I better have my camera with me again next time.

Candid on Pine and Broadway

Between the crosswalk signal not being in my favor and the fact that he was going to jump back on that skateboard as soon as he crossed the construction, there was no way I was catching up to this guy so I quickly grabbed my camera and snapped his photo from across the street.  I really love his style.  Glad this came out.

Crab Rolls | GOOP

Crab Rolls Goop Recipe

I've been reading GOOP for years. Sometimes she posts recipes and they are always fantastic.  Recently Gweneth Paltrow met up with a friend of hers so that he could teach her how to make his lobster rolls. Lobster and crab rolls are one of my very favorite dishes.  I always get one at Nettie's Crab Shack when I visit my friend Veronica in San Francisco and I am yet to find one in Seattle that lives up to that buttery piece of perfection.  The same day that I saw the recipe posted on GOOP I also noticed that Trader Joe's has crab claw meat in their refrigerated section and I decided to give the recipe a try using it.

It's no Nettie's but, oh my gosh, the buttery goodness!  Highly recommend trying this.

Christina was checking out at Trader Joe's just as I was leaving the store. When I asked to take her photo and heard her lovely French accent I immediately thought... of course.  I'm sorry to state the obvious but French women are just so dang effortlessly chic. Christina has me thinking it may be time to end my 16 year relationship with converses and give Bensimons a try.  Her shoes are so cute!

Christina moved to the US 27 years ago and practices massage therapy on Capitol Hill.

I love taking the ferry by foot to Bainbridge Island.  During the warm season I grab a seat on the sun deck and zone out while watching the views of Seattle, the sound and those seagulls that fly overhead in the air current of the boat.  I also get some great people watching on these rides.  Artist Nicole Aiello was heading out to Bainbridge to stay with relatives during her visit from Brooklyn.  You can see her art herehttp://nicoleaielloart.tumblr.com/.

Day Trip | Skagit County

A little while back Don and I had a day free while he was in town so we headed north to Skagit Valley.  It seems lately, with him traveling as much as he has been for work, we've been doing more and more epic day trips to try and check out all the places we have been meaning to check out over the last couple years.

So, here it is, a day trip through the Skagit Valley...

Mr.T's Mt Vernon

Mr.T's Mt Vernon

Mr.T's Mt Vernon
We started the day with brunch at Mr. T's in Mt. Vernon.  This place was so fun. It reminded us of some of our favorite greasy spoon diners off the highway in southeast Idaho (there are a lot of them there and we both miss them).  Unable to decide between breakfast and lunch so we got both. Eggs Benny, Seafood platter, clam chowder and that obscene plate on the bottom... well, that's the biggest biscuit and gravy dish I've ever seen and it was the half order. Insane or delicious? Possibly both. Our server was so friendly, asking about our agenda for the day trip and giving us suggestions for places to check out along the way. It was such a fun stop and the bill was something crazy like $26.

Bowman Bay
We headed out to Bowman Bay and walked until we ended up at this gorgeous lookout on the Lighthouse Point hike.

Bowman Bay

Bowman Bay
The trailhead for the Bowman Bay/Rosario Head Trail

Bowman Bay
There was so much to see at Bowman Bay that we never made it to the south side of the bridge so we will have to make another trip to check that out.

Last stop: La Conner.  We took the long way and drove down back roads along the farms that are scattered around the valley.  Most of the farms had stands along the side of the road or signs enticing passers by to come see what they had to offer.  It was hard to drive past everything.

We ended up in downtown La Conner for dinner at Nell Thorn.
Nell Thorn Crab Cake

Nell Thorn Clam Toscana

Crab cakes and Clam Toscana

This was the perfect meal to end to our long day.  We ate in the pub and people watched over wine.  The food at Nell Thorn is made with fresh seasonal meat, seafood and produce from the area with a simplicity that really lets the ingredients shine.

After dinner we sat on the docks at the edge of main street and shared an eclair that we picked up earlier in the day at Calico Cupboard in Mt. Vernon and then we headed home.  A lot of good stuff packed into one day.
