Future Beauty at SAM

I spend a lot of time at SAM. I love having a membership so that I can pop in for a minute when I need some quiet or if I'm looking for some inspiration. Sometimes I will just go to see one specific piece and then I head back out on my way to wherever I was going.

When I went to see Future Beauty: 30 Years of Japanese Fashion last week it was anything but a quick stop. In fact I think I spent more time at this exhibit than any other art exhibit I have ever been to. If you are interested in reading a review check out Laura Cassidy's write up for Seattle Met or this piece by The Seattle Times. I just wanted to make sure I let you guys know that you will be so happy that you went to see it and you might be like me and never want to leave. This is the greatest show I have seen come through SAM. I'll be making a few more trips before it moves on to it's second and final stop in the US.

And what better time to go than this week, you can have some of that sweet sweet air conditioning... I imagine most of you are as overheated as me right now.

Warby Parker Class Trip is in Seattle

If you wear glasses and haven't heard of Warby Parker yet... brace yourself. They are an online glasses store that sells glasses starting at $95 which includes the frame, prescription lens, anti-glare, UV protection and scratch resistant coating. In addition to getting a pair of glasses for at least half of what you would pay at other eye glass stores (more like 1/4 the price of a lot of places...) Warby Parker also gives a pair of glasses to someone in need for every pair sold.

Seriously!?

I've yet to need a new pair of glasses since I discovered these guys but any time someone asks me where I got my glasses or if I have suggestions for where they should look for a similar pair I point them in the direction of Warby Parker. It just seems like the perfect set up. They have free shipping in both directions and you can order glasses to try on at home so that you can find the perfect pair.

So, the bus up there... Warby Parker is touring the country this summer in that converted school bus and it is filled with glasses and sunglasses for you to try on and order right there. They invited me down to where they have set up camp on 2nd & Pine (across from the old Nordstrom Rack) so that I could check out the bus and try on some glasses. I was there forever and I think I may have tried on just about every pair. I ended up picking out the greatest pair of sunglasses. I am so excited to have prescription sunglasses! It will be my first pair. Gone will be the days of squinting through my regular glasses all summer long. I'll post a photo of them when they arrive.

It's a neat opportunity to get to see how you like their frames while you have pretty much the whole online store right in front of you. Once you find your perfect pair and get sized then you are set. Then anytime you need a new pair of glasses down the road you can just hop on their website and order up another pair.  Hurry up and get down there while the bus is still in town.

Robert Wiencek | Totokaelo MAN

Olive & Bellevue

Robert is the Store Director at Totokaelo MAN. I haven't had a chance yet to check out the new space in the below ground space but I've been thoroughly enjoying the blog and from the photos on the Totokaelo MAN website the new store looks just as stunning as the women's store upstairs. I feel like I am in a gallery when I go there. Such an inspiring and special place.

Also, Totokaelo is having their big spring/summer merchandise sale right now!!

Rachel | Locust Beach

Don and I met our friends from Vancouver in Bellingham for the afternoon and we killed some time on the beach between lunch at La Gloria (which has amazing Mexican food by the way...) and going to the movies. Rachel had such a great scarf on. The right scarf can completely change an outfit. I keep one in my purse in case I end up meeting with someone for drinks after work and need to add a little something to my outfit or if my hair is not cooperating I can cover it up with a head wrap. And the best part? There are so many beautiful scarves that cost next to nothing at the flea market or thrift store.

Such a lovely girl that Rachel. I like this mix of stripes and floral.

Hallie Kuperman & Karyn Schwarz

Outside the Egyptian Theater on Capitol Hill

Hallie owns the Century Ballroom in the Oddfellows Building and Karyn owns Sugarpill, one of my very favorite places to shop in Seattle. You really can find the perfect gift for absolutely anyone there and her unique stock of cocktail fixins is what got me into making drinks at home last year. I need to stop by there and pick up some more Pok Pok Som drinking vinegar. Have you tried it yet??

Kate Buska | Hotel Max

Summit & Pine

I found Kate on her way downtown after a stop in at Molly Moon's. Kate works for Provenance Hotels based out of Portland. Even though she lives in Portland she is an honorary Seattleite since she is here so often working with the Hotel Max location downtown.

Kate invited me to that Sub Pop x Hotel Max opening party that I went to a little while back.

Michael Cepress 2013 Showcase Collection: American Dreaming
Next Friday Michael Cepress will be revealing his 2013 Collection Showcase, which he has named American Dreaming. Over the last year Michael worked tirelessly to reach his Kickstarter goal and then to bring together this 2013 collection and now the time has finally come to enjoy the fruits of his labor.

Israel Broussard | SIFF's Bling Ring Cinerama Screening

Now that I've had a couple days to sit with it, I really liked The Bling Ring. Israel Broussard portrayed Nick Prugo (who Sophia Coppola gave the name Marc for the film). The film was so well cast.

Great tie, right?

The Sub Pop floor at Hotel Max

In honor  Sub Pop's 25th anniversary Hotel Max in downtown Seattle has partnered with the record company to create an entire Sub Pop floor for guests to stay in. I stopped by the launch of this music lover's haven last week and they really did an amazing job putting together a completely interactive and inspiring place for guests to use as a home base while staying in Seattle.

Each room has a turntable and a selection of old and new Sub Pop albums to play.

My favorite detail...

Album covers turned to wall art

Each door features photographs Sub Pop moments captured by Seattle photographers.

I'm excited to have such a unique place to recommend to people visiting Seattle.  I kinda want to for a night myself even though I live up the street...

Crop Top | SIFF Closing Night

Yesterday was the final day of SIFF 2013 and I attended the screening of The Bling Ring at Cinerama as well as the closing gala at Mohai that followed. For today I wanted to get a shot up from the night. I loved this dress and her nail polish! The photos that I shot throughout the night will be posted on the SIFF facebook page this week so keep an eye out if you attended and I snapped your picture.

It was really an amazing festival this year. Hope everyone was able to get to the films that they wanted to see. I didn't make it to all of the movies that I hoping to attend but I did catch some good ones. I highly highly recommend seeing Kings of Summer.  It opened at The Harvard Exit shortly after the screening at SIFF. It is also playing in Bellevue.
