Matt

Well, it finally happened. Internet was installed in my new apartment mere moments ago. And to kick off the start of posting again here is a photo that I took on a warm day a couple weeks ago. Seattle has felt very un-summery recently so let's just pretend that I took the photo this week and that it has been wonderful outside.

You may remember Matt from a photo I took of him last year wearing an incredible large collared winter coat. Here he is at the complete opposite time of year downtown at 6th & Pine.

Reader Perks!

Hey Readers! Well, the move went well but the installation of internet in our new place did not. This is the longest that I have ever gone without posting since I started It's My Darlin' back in 2008. Just wanted to check in (this is my first phone post...) and let you know that I should be back up and running by Wednesday evening after the internet guy stops by. I have gotten a lot of great street style photos in the last two weeks that I can't wait to get on here.
For now though here is a little treat for all of my lovely readers. Lands' End contacted me again yesterday and offered us Early Bird access to their very first sale before it goes public as well as free shipping for today only! So for those of you who entered the contest and sent me links for your favorite items here is your chance to get them at a much lower price.
To take advantage of 30% off and free shipping on your order go to http://bit.ly/CanvasSummer. You will be directed to the Lands' End Canvas site with a special promotional code and the savings will be reflected in your shopping cart. This will be valid today, June 29th, only.

Moving

I'm moving this weekend. Only a few blocks away but moving nonetheless. I can't wait to get to the new place and make it my my own. I seriously dislike moving but I love decorating a new place. I've pulled out the old issues of Domino, my favorite fashion websites are temporarily being ignored and all free time is being spent on decorating blogs. Goodbye Summit Avenue, you will be missed (mostly the late night Clever Dunne's and Crecent debauchery that I will no longer get to watch out my windows... way better than cable).

Healeo Lunch

It's hard not to eat out on my lunch break. My work is a quick jaunt from Madison Market, Hillside Quickie, Meza, and most tempting of all for me recently... Healeo! I caved and got this seriously delicious and hearty tofu and veggie tahini over quinoa on a recent cold rainy day. I think I may be in there again tomorrow for an Acai Bowl. I just can't resist the vegan goodness...

Kendal Tull-Esterbrook & Michael Alm

During last Thursday's Blitz Art Walk my main stop of the evening was to check out Cryptomenagerie at Vermillion. You may remember my CHS post a few weeks back about local artist Zoe Williams and her involvement in this show. I am so glad that I made it to the up to the opening. All three artists were incredibly talented and doing things with uncommon materials and sculpture that I have never seen before. I was absolutely taken with the concept behind Michael Alm's work and his new take on protecting endangered animals. Here is a bit from his artist statement:

"My goal is to fabricate a comprehensive reality for a visibly artificial creature. By using faux furs, clay, brightly dyed feathers, and hardwoods as surrogate animal parts, I call attention to the fabrication of these specimens."

At the show in support of Michael and the other artists was illustrator Kendal Tull-Esterbrook whose style I found absolutely stunning. I asked her to step in front of Michael's work for a few shots but the lighting was more fitting for the art than a full body photograph so we ended up out in front Vermillion for a photo just before the sun went down.

Check out Kendal's flickr page. She has a truly unique illustration style and the ideas behind her drawings are quite clever.

Lands End Canvas Giveaway

I was recently contacted by Lands' End's about their newest line called Lands' End Canvas. I have to admit that I was skeptical before checking it out but then found myself on the website excitedly adding one item after another to my wish list. This new line is definitely a new chapter for the company. It is timeless casual clothing for both men and women with a youthful modern feel... think J.Crew with a lower price tag.

Lands' End has kindly offered me a $50 gift card to give one of my wonderful readers! The perfect opportunity to add something new to your summer wardrobe on Lands' End's tab... A classic button up, a bathing suit, or maybe a new pair of jeans. If you want to be entered into the drawing send an email to me at itsmydarlin@gmail.com by Sunday at midnight. In the subject line please indicate "Canvas Giveaway" and in the email tell me your favorite item from the Canvas line. On Monday the 14th I will be doing the drawing and I'll contact the winner at the end of the day!

The Lands' End Canvas team and Lucky Magazine Editor Elise Loehnen are also holding an event in Redmond this Friday that sounds really fun. Elise will be there giving styling tips for the Canvas line and there will be complimentary gift bags, giveaways and cupcakes. The event is from 6-8pm at the Lands' End shop in Sears.

Miz Mooz... A new permanent fixture on my feet

Miz Mooz graciously gave me these gorgeous brogues from their fall/winter 2010 line. I was immediately excited when I opened the bright orange box to find exactly the shoe style that I have been on the hunt for over the last year. Yes, I have found a lot of brogues on my hunt but each one always had something missing. Whether the sole was too thin, the toe too wide, or the price too high I just couldn't find the perfect pair. So, I must say that although these seemed perfect on the surface I knew there had to be a catch. I've had a run of bad luck with purchasing uncomfortable shoes lately so I was prepared for them to be stiff, squeaky, or worst of all only comfortable for short distances. Being that my primary transportation around the city is my feet I took these lovelies on the ultimate test run last weekend; a full day of walking around Seattle. I packed a pair of Toms in my bag assuming that even at their most comfortable these shoes would insist on being removed after a couple hours. Don and I went to breakfast, then a movie, there was a period of time perusing the market, then lunch came and went, steep roads were climbed both downtown and on my way back home up Capitol Hill, and the next thing I knew I was walking in the door at the end of a long day with the shoes still just as comfortable as when I left. So it's official, I have been given what can only be considered a complete footwear miracle... A shoe that isn't a sneaker, is comfortable to walk in, looks good with just about anything and on top of all that is under $80. Finally, something a bit dressy to wear when I'm walking from here to there.

You can buy Miz Mooz shoes online but I highly recommend taking a trip over to West Seattle and checking them out at Clementine on California Ave. They are a tiny shop so they carefully select each shoe that they carry. I've loved every shoe I have taken home from Clementine. They also have a great blog where they post the new styles that they get in as well as upcoming sales and specials.

Tiffany- West Seattle Sunday Market

What an incredibly timeless outfit. I have so many great scarves that just sit in a drawer in my closet. Tiffany has inspired me to start incorporating them into more outfits. Tiffany's adds the perfect amount of color to her classic menswear influenced outfit.

Chef Don

Don travels for work Monday thru Friday so dinner for me usually means throwing together random items in the cupboard/fridge or making a salad. Last week I was treated to an unexpected stay at home husband. I have to say, it's going to be difficult going back to the norm after coming home each day to a clean apartment and vegan dinners home cooked using local foods from our co-op and farmers market. I remembered to photograph his magnificent creations a few of the nights and thought I would share since they well surpassed even most of my favorite meals out. Thanks for a week of spoiling Don, you are very missed now that you are back to work.

Pulled "Port" sandwiches made with slow simmered home made BBQ sauce served with olive hummus and heirloom baby tomatoes. This. Was. AMAZING!

Veggie Scramble

Vegan Reuben using Dave's Powerseed Bread, Apple Sage Field Roast "sausage" and Bubbie's Sauerkraut with a homemade thousand island dressing made with Veganaise, natural ketchup, and a sweet relish.

Dreaming of Calla

Spring Summer 2010

Fall Winter 2010/2011

Calla Haynes' experience in textile design and modeling in Paris obviously gave her the skill and knowledge necessary to create a stunning collection based on beautiful fabrics and effortless fit. I coveted her Spring line and I am finding myself even more enamoured with her more recent Winter 2010/2011 line.

Laura Jorgensen at Folklife

I think my favorite part of this year's Folklife Festival was discovering Laura Jorgenson. She was a breath of fresh air to come across amongst all the chaos of the festival. I stood and watched with amazement as she sang soulfully and gracefully alongside her accordian. If you love Beirut, Antony & the Johnsons, Regina Spector, Andrew Bird, or Coco Rosie you will fall head over heels for Laura. I can't wait for her album to come out on the 15th! Check out her You Tube page too... I'm completely blown away by her impromptu cover of Regina Spektor's "Samson".
