It feels a little like I am giving away the map to a buried treasure by telling you this but I am about to disclose to you Seattle's hidden gem of vintage clothing. A lot of you are probably living just down the street from it and either aren't aware it is there or have seen the shop's amazing window displays on a day when it isn't open. I'm referring to Indian Summer on Summit & Mercer on Capitol Hill. For a few years now Indian Summer owner, stylist and vintage genious Adria Garcia has been one of my main sources for great vintage finds at her Punk Rock Flea Market booth. The Punk Rock Flea Market only happens twice a year so I was thrilled to find out that she was taking up shop in a permanent location just two blocks from my apartment.
Adria has a very unique and keen eye for vintage clothing but she also believes strongly in only selling items that that are in beautiful condition and that she would wear herself or dress her friends in. Shopping at Indian Summer feels like perusing the racks of a small high end boutique but every item is one of a kind and instead of seeing price tags in the $100-$300 range you will find everything is about $10-$30. Instead of of spending hours sorting through bins and piles to find one treasure Indian summer is a small space with only a few racks of perfectly steamed pieces for men and women hung and organized in a way that creates an easy and totally enjoyable shopping experience. Having a vintage shop like this as a resource in our city is so awesome. So is having a shop owner and stylist so excited about clothing and the story that it tells.
So there it is guys and gals... now you know my secret. Go forth and prosper.
