We had lunch yesterday at the Wayward Vegan Cafe in the University District. It was our first time eating there as I had read terrible reviews about them when we first moved here a few years ago. At the end of last year I read that the cafe was now under great new management so I have since been meaning to head over. Our experience at Wayward was fantastic from the moment we walked in the door.
After putting in our order we grabbed some games off the shelf and took our seat.
In what seemed like only moments later they were dropping off our food and we were putting away the toys. The portions were enormous. Even though it was lunchtime Don was dying to try the much hyped (on yelp) biscuits and gravy. They use big fluffy homemade biscuits with a savory mushroom gravy. This dish was definitely our favorite of the three that we ordered.
Along with the biscuits we ordered a half stack of chocolate chip and coconut pancakes. They were so rich and could have passed for a pastry. Yummm
I chose the Smokey Provoloney sandwich. It was spicy baked tofu pieces with vegan provolone, aioli, lettuce and tomatoes on a huge whole grain deli roll and came with a side of home fries.
Such a great lunch!
